In Memory of Michael Jackson

The world remembers today probably the greatest entertainer of all time, Michael Jackson.

Dubbed the King of Pop, the legendary Michael held the world spellbound with his scintillating voice, his electric dance steps as well as his evergreen music.

His musical career which spanned over three decades started from childhood with the Jackson 5. His music cuts across all barriers - men and women; white or black, educated or uneducated.

He strode the earth like a colossus entertaining us with award-winning songs like We are the world, Heal the World, You are Not Alone, Smooth Criminal, Thriller, Dangerous, Bad, Black or White, Earth Song, Billie Jean, Have you seen my childhood etc.

His knack for perfection, probably gotten from his father, ensured that almost every work of Michael Jackson was a commercial success.

But Michael was much more than just excellent dance steps and stage craftsmanship, he fought against injustice and canvassed for social equity with his songs.

In 1985, in conjunction with Lionel Richie, he wrote a song titled USA for Africa's "We Are The World" in the album We Are The World as part of relief efforts for famine-ravaged Ethiopia.

Twenty-five years after,  after a devastating tsunami of magnitude 7.0Mw destroyed most parts of Haiti killing thousands and displacing millions from their homes, We are the world 25 for Haiti was the response to that disaster. Inspired by the original version, a group of eighty artistes called the Supergroup Artistes for Haiti, collaborated to produce this re-cut version to help raise funds for the people of Haiti.

Despite his success, Michael had issues with his personal life. He was denied the activities of everyday children by his father. Hence Michael craved children and children things. These cravings were the bane of his career as he had several accusations and litigation about sexually molesting children.

Alas, no good thing lasts forever! And as the manual for life declares

"It is laid up to men once to die, and after this -- judgment"

Death came calling early. On 25th June 2009, Michael Jackson breathed his last and was found dead in his Nevaland home.

Wikipedia reports that his  Physician Conrad Murray said that he found Jackson in his room not breathing and with a weak pulse; he administered CPR to no avail, and security called 9-1-1 at 12:21 p.m. Paramedics treated Jackson at the scene but pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center found him dead. He was fifty years old.

Today we remember and celebrate a Colossus; a man who dedicated his life to putting smiles on the faces on millions of people across the globe. A man who charmed the world with his smiles serenaded us his voice and entertained us with his dance steps and stage craftsmanship.

He may have had skeletons in his wardrobe as he wasn't perfect. But hey neither are you! And "let him that is without sin cast the first stone".

Rest in peace Michael. You live on in the hearts of your family, friends and fans. Your works and legacies still speak favourably for you today! May your gentle soul continue to rest in peace.
